Poetry on the Green - May

We are incredibly excited to be launching a brand new monthly Poetry evening called Poetry on the Green, and our launch event is with amazing Birmingham poet Casey Bailey.

Poetry on the Green is hosted by social enterprise Green Heart Books who run The Bookshop on the Green.

Casey Bailey is an established performance poet and he was the Birmingham Poet Laureate between 2020-2022. Casey is perhaps best known for opening the Birmingham Commonwealth Games coverage for the BBC with a specially commissioned poem.

We hope that you will be able to join us for a very special launch event. Booking is essential!

So what is Poetry on the Green?

Poetry on the Green is a new monthly Poetry evening. It will be held on the first Tuesday evening of the month at The Bookshop on the Green. In the summer and in good weather, we look forward to hosting our evenings on Bournville Village Green!

What can you expect? A warm and welcoming atmosphere, homemade cake and tea/coffee included in the ticket price and wonderful poetry!

Some months there will well-known and established Headliner poets. Some months there will be Featured poets and open mic opportunities. A dazzling line up awaits over the coming months.

Your hosts will be Peri Cimen and Bradley Taylor, Assistant Manager and Poet in Residence at The Bookshop on the Green. Sarah Mullen, owner of our bookshop, will be providing the homemade cake!

Why are we doing this?

We love Poetry and we think that this is a really exciting time for Poetry in Birmingham. We wanted there to be an inspiring, open and accessible Poetry evening held in a bookshop which emerging poets, including young people age 14+, could take part in. By not serving alcohol, we're also accessible to those who don't drink alcohol for religious or other reasons, and who are not comfortable performing where alcohol is served.

We're really excited to be launching Poetry on the Green and we hope you will be able to join us on this exciting new venture.
